Why I became a travel agent...

Updated: Jan 9, 2023

I have always loved travel since I was small. My earliest memories are family holidays to Devon & Wales & The Isle of Wight. I'm not talking a small family holiday.. I'm talking uncles and aunties and cousins, so many cousins! The holiday homes were huge and they would be so loud and chaotic, I loved it!. We would bike ride and go on field adventures, have BBQs and stay up late. They were so much fun and I have so many great memories involving these family trips.

We were also lucky enough to go to Egypt every summer for the whole summer (my dad is Egyptian). We would fly out as soon as the schools broke up and we would always come back after school had started. I still remember how long those holidays felt, we would go to the beach every day, all day, bring huge picnics and have the best time. We would do boat trips & fishing, jet ski & swimming. The summers were so long and again, me and my siblings have the best memories of those times.

As soon as I had my first proper job at 17, the first thing I was saving up for was a holiday. Me and my friends would go away every summer and it was so cheap back then. We would find package deals for £200-£250 and that would include flights, accommodation and half board!! We didn't care where we were going, we just looked for the deals and the hot weather. We went to Tenerife, Lanzarote, Morocco, Tunisia, Portugal, Malaga, Cyprus and we always had the best time.

Then when I met my (now) husband, the thing we really connected with, was how much we loved to travel! We have been to amazing places together... Chicago, Florida (Disneyland), New York, Las Vegas, Cape Town, Dubai, Croatia, Turkey, South of France. We've done loads of weekend breaks or short stays in Marbella, Barcelona, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris, Switzerland. We literally could not love travelling more and now we have a son together; we have already started to show him the world.

At the end of 2021, a dear friend of mine, approached me with the idea of becoming a Travel Agent and it was one of those things that immediately made sense to me. I couldn't believe I hadn't thought about it before, it seemed so obvious in hindsight.

I love travel, I am so passionate about it and although I have been lucky to visit so many amazing destinations, there are still so many places I want to visit. What better career could I build than travelling for work, learning and exploring new places and destinations, to then tell people about them and help them travel there.

It took me about two weeks to complete the training (an hour or so each evening), then I completed 2 exams to provide me with my Travel Agents License & ABTA protection. I then continued my training through specialist suppliers like Marriott, Jumeriah and Disney, so that I can become an expert for these travel companies.

I started to book holidays for friends and family. I felt so much satisfaction in being able to book them incredible trips for LESS than they could find anywhere else.

Now I am building a client base that love the service and savings that I can provide. They want to speak to a person rather than booking on a site. They want to hear the recommendations that I can offer and they want me to speak to my hotel contacts to get them the best rates and any little extras we can add.

I have literally found my dream job!
