My Top 3 Favourite Destinations in Europe - No. 3 - The Lake District

Updated: Jan 9, 2023

European trips, we are so lucky to be close to so many amazing countries. The best thing about visiting Europe is the fact that the flights are never that long! I know, I know, I'm a travel agent and I don't particularly like flying. SO yes a short flight is always a great big tick for me. This was actually really hard to choose and it may change but for now, in reverse order, they are as follows...

No 3 - The Lake District

I love that I have given a spot to a UK destination and it wasn't hard to choose one. I absolutely love the Lake District. Anyone that has been will know exactly why this place is so special but for those of you that haven't been, here are just a few reasons you need to visit!

Erm the lakes! Pretty obvious I know, but honestly the lakes are out of this world. I know it's a cliche but it really doesn't feel like you are in the UK. You could be dropped there and think you are in Italy or France (ok on a sunny day). The lakes are stunning and calm and serene and offer really beautiful views. You can take a boat out on Lake Windermere (one of the biggest lakes). You can kayak, canoe, sail, wind surf, paddle board and swim.

The Drives! The Lake District have some of the best scenic drives in the country and they are a great way to take in the sights. From stunning lake side drives to thrilling mountain roads. My favourite drive is from Windermere to Ullswater via Kirkstone Pass. It tackles the highest mountain pass in the Lake District and is known as 'The Struggle'.

The Walks! From hardcore hikes to easy strolls, there are so many beautiful walks to choose from in the Lake District. Some offer breathtaking scenery of grassy moors and some the stunning lakes. With so many of the routes being child friendly and dog friendly, it is something the whole family can enjoy.

The Villages! There are so many cute little villages to explore with lovely cafes, popular restaurants and gorgeous independent shops. Some of my favourites are Ulleswater, Keswick, Bowness-on-Windermere & Grasmere.
