The Maldives is a cluster of 1200 islands. There are over 158 resorts to choose from across 26 Atols (areas). Each Atol has it's own weather system and depending how far from the mainland you are, some are on a 4 hour time difference to the UK and some are 6 hours.
The Mainland is Male and the best way to get to the islands is by sea plane or speedboat.
The high season is November to April. However, you can actually visit all year round. In August, you can get some amazing deals for a fraction of the price.
Fun fact - it is illegal to take shells home.
Activities to try include snorkelling, paddle boarding, scuba diving, dolphin watching, island hopping, surfing, swimming with sharks, visiting local markets and schools and one that sounds incredible.. the cast away experience. You get dropped off to a remote island to spend the night alone and you are collected the next day.
